BMW 3 Series (F30)

The BMW F30 series, the sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars, was unveiled by automaker BMW on October 14, 2011 in Munich, Germany. It was released as a 2012 model and has been on sale since early 2012.

Styling
The exterior has strong hints from the current 5 series platform. Wide tail lamps, and a lower slung roofline gives the newer model a more athletic stance. A more traditional exterior returns to classic BMW styling as seen from the late 1990’s 3 series (E46) and 5 series (E39) models. This new direction replaces the modern and edgy “bangle butt” styling as seen in the pre-face lifted 2006 (E90) bodystyle. The trademark kidney grill has taken on a rectangular shape which connects to the headlamps. Interior styling has taken on a much more modern and contemporary approach. A small LCD panel protrudes out of a dash board with much more edgy lines. Wood or Aluminum accents are seen on swooping door handles, a triangular shaped piece on the center console and a minimal amount on the dashboard. Cup holders return to the center console, which is hidden under a plastic compartment. Component speakers are much more visible. Seats have taken on more stitching detail and appear more sporty. “Sport Line” models don bright red stitching on the door panels, seats, and steering wheel similar to M3 Models. There is also a distinctive red metallic trim which covers the entire dashboard.

Engines
Naturally aspirated straight-six engines from 325i/330i are replaced by BMW's new N20 turbocharged inline-four two liter engine already introduced in a lot of BMW models. Top of the range 335i has the same N55 engine as E90. Diesel powertrain is still two liter inline-four N47 engine which is optimized for the new car.
